Five more days of literature and ideas

Five More Days of Literature and Ideas

The second weekend of BLF Chengdu opened with an inspiring discussion with Lionel Shriver about tough choices, motherhood, responsibility and coping with critics.  Saturday morning saw the Bookworm thronged with young artists particapting in Australian writer and illustrator Alison Lester’s lively workshop, while Sunday afternoon’s audience travelled to Haiti via the novels of Makenzy Orcel.  On Tuesday the scene shifted to Burma, when journalist Peter Popham introduced his biography of Aung San Suu Kyi.

With only five more days of events to go, don’t miss your chance to hear rising literary stars from the USA, Justin Torres (Wednesday March 20, 7.30 pm) and Chad Harbach (Friday March 22, 7.30 pm), as well as renowned local novelist Alai (Sunday March 24, 7.30 pm). Saturday March 23 will also be a lively night with performance poetry by CJ Bowerbird and Luis Valadez, plus a late night open mic slot showcasing local talent. From 7.30 pm onwards, with live music from Proximity Butterfly to follow after the performances.
