BLF Opening Night and International Women’s Day

The Bookworm was packed last night for the opening of BLF 2014. A huge crowd came out to celebrate the start of the festival and hear local novelist Yan Ge chat with British writer Janette Jenkins about their different takes on family life in fiction.

Big thanks for British Consul General Tina Redshaw for moderating a great discussion and to all our sponsors, supporters, volunteers and guests.

Tonight we follow up with two more events celebrating International Women’s Day. At 5 pm Journalist Leta Hong Fincher will talk about her research into the phenomenon of China’s so-called Leftover Women, an event that was well received at the Beijing Bookworm last night. At 7.30 Janette Jenkins returns to the stage, this time with Indian writer Anjum Hasan and local journalist and writer Ning Yuan, to discuss the challenges women face in their respective societies.
