 BLF 2014 Opens This Weekend!

The Bookworm International Literary Festival opens in Chengdu this weekend, kicking off two weeks packed with literature and ideas, comedy, poetry, film and much more. We start the festival with three events to mark Internationa Women’s Day on March 8th.

On opening night, Saturday March 8th at 7.30 pm we welcome UK Consul General of South West China, Tina Redshaw to moderate a discussion on how fiction sheds light on the intricacies and dramas of family life with local literary star Yan Ge and British novelist Janette JenkinsThe Family of Joy. 《我们家》 作者颜歌对话英国作家珍妮特·詹金斯  Saturday, March 8, 7.30pm (中/英文)

The following evening we are joined by journalist and sociologist Leta Hong Fincher for a closer look at women’s lives in contemporary China as she presents the results of her reseach on Leftover Women. 中国剩女的现状与未来  Sunday, March 9, 5pm(英文)

Later that evening we round off our International Women’s Day events with a panel discussion featuring Poet, writer and editor Anjum Hasan from India, British novelist Janette Jenkins and local writer and designer Ning Yuan, who will share their perspectives on how womens’ lives are changing in three different parts of the world. Three Continents: Half The Sky. 妇女节的国际意义:三位来自中、印、英的女作家从各自的角度来讨论世界上妇女生活变化的历史  Sunday, 9 March, 7.30pm (中/英文)
